Dr. Malone has provided Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery in Athens, GA since 1994. Dedicated to comprehensive care, Dr. Malone expanded his practice in 2005 to include specialized, minimally invasive vein care.
Dr. Chris E. Malone has been board-certified in Thoracic and General Surgery since 1989. Dr. Malone, former Chief of Surgery at Athens Regional Medical Center has served the Northeast Georgia Region for decades, delivering advanced surgical care with a commitment to safety, precision, and individualized patient treatment.

In 2005, Dr. Malone expanded his clinical focus to include the diagnosis and treatment of varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency while continuing to provide surgical care for patients throughout the region.
His decades of experience in Cardiovascular, Thoracic and General Surgery provide a comprehensive understanding of vascular anatomy and circulatory health, supporting thorough evaluation and individualized treatment planning.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
Dr. Chris Malone earned his medical degree from the University of Texas in 1981, laying the foundation for a distinguished career in surgery. He went on to complete his residency in General Surgery at UT in 1986, where he developed his clinical and operative skill set. Pursuing further specialization, Dr. Malone completed his residency in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine in 1989, gaining advanced expertise in complex cardiac, vascular and thoracic procedures.

Patients are referred to a Thoracic Surgeon when conditions affect the lungs, chest wall, mediastinum, or major blood vessels within the chest.
Dr. Malone evaluates and surgically manages:
- Lung nodules
- Lung cancer
- Mediastinal masses
- Pleural disease
- Chest wall abnormalities
- Other thoracic surgical conditions within his board-certified scope
Surgical procedures are performed at St. Mary’s Health Care System in Athens using robotic-assisted or traditional open surgical techniques when clinically appropriate.
